- I agree. I am not absolutely correct. However, the Amiga operating system still lacks
- complete memory protection and resource allocation, making it possible for
- a haywire app to crash the system.
-
- The Amiga's support software is also lacking. The fact that there is no
- IRC server software for the Amiga makes it difficult to run an IRC server.
- Even if there WAS software, it would be difficult to convince the IRC
- administration that you could provide reliable service on a
- non-professional, non-Unix computer system.
-
- Also, while AmiTCP/IP is excellent for light-duty work, it is most likely
- not robust enough to handle the thousands of connections per hour and the
- tens of megabytes per minute of data transfer that running IRC server would
- require.
-
- Also, the Amiga hardware is not up to the task of the intensive task of
- running an IRC server. The Amiga does not have hot-swappable or even
- redundant power supplies. Amiga operating system requires a reboot when
- you change hard disks. The Amiga hardware is not up to current
- professional standards. It's a damn excellent home computer, but I
- wouldn't even consider using it in a commerical/industrial environment.
-
- Rabid Amiga advocists please note: I am not putting down the Amiga
- computer in any way. I use my Amiga every day, and I wouldn't replace it
- for the world. But it is NOT perfect for all applications, as much as
- we'd like to think that it is.
-
- Some realism is required.
